All Saints is in desperate need of re-thatching along with repairs to the roof trusses, the high level windows and interior walls. At the same time, it is planned to install mains water, a toilet and galley kitchen to make the Grade 1 listed building more user-friendly. The project as a whole is estimated to cost £175,843 in total. This is split into two phases: Development and Delivery. We are in the development phase already which is budgeted at £22,220. On Tuesday 28th June our architect carried out a detailed inspection of the beams in the Nave roof from the vantage of a scaffold tower. As we expected, there was some good news and some not-so-good news. A number of beams will need attention of some degree but this has been budgeted for in the Delivery costs.

So how can you help?
The church council and members of the project team really hope you will support this huge undertaking to secure the future of All Saints for everyone. Inevitably, there will need to be funds raised locally and if you would like to make a donation contact Kate Ashcroft on 01493 751637 or email ashcroftkathleen@sky.com .
As part of HLF’s conditions of receiving a grant, we also have to raise awareness of the heritage that is contained within the church building. The Project Team is organising a Heritage Day at All Saints Church on Saturday 10th September 2016, 10:00am - 5:00pm, when everyone is invited to come along to learn more about the history of the building and the work being planned to restore and improve it. There will also be a display of local treasures residents of Beighton and Moulton may have dug up in their garden or have hidden away in the attic or outbuildings - contact Suzanne Peek on 01493 751011 if you are interested in displaying items. A selection of parish records from the Archive Centre in Norwich, a special trail for young and not-so-young people to discover the many interesting features of All Saints and hopefully the chance to record your memories of Beighton and Moulton – church, school, village etc – will also feature on the day. And of course, no event at the church would be complete without our amazing refreshments which on this occasion will include delicious cream teas.
10th September is also the annual Norfolk Churches Trust Sponsored Bike, Ride and Drive so dust off the old bicycle, walking boots or hop into the car to discover the many historic churches in this area and get sponsored while you do. Half the money raised goes to the church or chapel of your choice and we shall certainly be approaching NCT when the time comes to apply for grants. Sponsor forms and lists of participating churches will be in All Saints Beighton and St Mary’s at Moulton.
Who is on the Project Team?
Kate Ashcroft (PCC Treasurer), Claire Mackay (PCC), Carolyn Wright, Giles Mack, Suzanne Peek, Alison Deppe.
Future events
Looking ahead to 2017, a performance of TS Eliot’s ‘Murder in the Cathedral’ is being planned to be staged in All Saints on Saturday 8 July 2017. The action occurs between 2 and 29 December 1170, chronicling the days leading up to the martyrdom of Archbishop Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. A taster day is planned for 10 December this year, venue to be confirmed, for anyone interested in taking part. If you would like further information, please contact Carolyn Wright on 01493 751884.
