12th April

Acts 10.34-43

John 20.1-18 or Matthew 28.1-10

Please pray for Ann Brook and family, after the sad death of Michael; and for all who are losing loved ones to Covid 19. Also for our Bishops, especially Graham and Alan; for Oscar Royal (1st anniversary of his baptism at Beighton); and for the Anglican Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean: vulnerable to, and taking action against, climate change.

Churches Together in England are asking us to keep praying on Sundays at 7.00pm and have a candle poster to display in a window to let passers-by know: www.cte.org.uk Prayers of Hope.

A prayer for this week:-

Ah my dear Lord, the church is locked
but let my heart be open to your presence;
there let us make, you and I,
your Easter garden;
plant it with flowers,
and let the heavy stone be rolled away.         Alan Amos

Prayer & Worship at home:-

Material and links will be posted on www.abychurches.co.uk/prayer/ including for Holy Week:-

Palm Sunday: The Church of England has advised against distributing palm crosses; you may still have last year’s; or make one out of paper or card and post it in your window: https://youtu.be/oT-0Z6YSJoU  Prayer on a Page will include a link to an on-line reading of the Passion.

Compline: to replace Acle Churches’ Together Holy Week Compline I have recorded the service: it’s available on the website, with the text, under Audio (where I posted last Sunday’s reflection).

You will also find links to a selection of Stations of the Cross.

Look out later in the week for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Eve.

Church events: most, including the Farmers’ Market and outdoor services, have been cancelled.

Community support:-

See Outlook or the updated version at www.abychurches.co.uk/whats-on/covid-19-advice-support/

Other notices:-

April’s edition of Outlook magazine has been printed: thank you to those who have been able to deliver them. Note Church of England advice is now not to deliver information on paper because of the transmission risk: please access on-line if you are able.

Please continue to support charities, which have seen drastic reductions in income because of the restrictions. Churches are no different: even though buildings are closed there are still bills to pay. If you could give by bank transfer please speak to your Church Treasurer for details. It’s also hard to promote St. Edmund’s Thatch Appeal: we need to raise the money to do the work before next winter, if at all possible. The Rector has details of how to give cash to Great Yarmouth Foodbank, which is facing extra demand; there are still food donation bins in Acle Co-op and Freethorpe General Store.

Clergy contact details:-

Martin Greenland (Rector) 01493 750393 rector@aclechurch.plus.com – day off Wednesday.
Notices for next week to Martin by Friday morning, please.
